Emergency defense, Typhoon "Huajiasha" is preparing to strike!
This year's No. 18 typhoon "Huajiasha" has become the strongest typhoon globally this year and is expected to make landfall along the coast from Shenzhen to Xuwen in Guangdong on September 24.
It will bring heavy rain to torrential rain, and locally extremely heavy rain. As the vertical lifeline of transportation, the safe operation of elevators concerns the travel safety of every citizen.
Guangdong Fuji Elevator reminds everyone: during typhoon weather, please be sure to pay high attention to elevator safety, and take safety precautions!
Safety Precautions
Guangdong Fuji Elevator Co., Ltd.
During typhoons and heavy rains,
why do elevators tend to "fail"?
1. Water ingress into the machine room, pit, and hoistway, causing electrical short circuits. Rainwater seeping into critical elevator areas directly disrupts the normal operation of the electrical system, leading to sudden shutdowns. This is the most common cause of elevator failure during typhoons.
2. Secondary accidents or hazards such as electric leakage and shocks. After the electrical system is damaged by water ingress, leakage may occur. If people come into contact with live components or affected areas, they face the risk of electric shock, posing serious safety hazards.
3. Rusting of mechanical components due to water splashing or soaking. Mechanical parts such as guide rails and steel ropes, when exposed to rain or soaked for a long time, will accelerate rusting, affecting service life and operating precision, and may even cause jamming and other faults.
Precautions and Prevention Tips
1. Strengthen patrol inspections, park the elevator at a higher floor in advance, and immediately cut off the power supply.
2. Check whether the pit drainage equipment is working properly. For elevators in low-lying areas, take flood prevention and sealing measures in advance.
3. For outdoor elevators, stop using them.
Safety Operation Tips for Special Equipment After the Typhoon
1. During persistent heavy rainfall caused by the typhoon, prepare sandbags and other waterproof measures in time. Outdoor escalators should remain out of service.
2. Drain pit water in a timely manner. The elevator can only be put back into use after self-inspection confirms safe operation.
3. Elevator maintenance personnel repairing flooded elevators must wear protective equipment to avoid electric shock.
Safe Riding Tips
❌ Do not use elevators marked with "Out of Service".
Such elevators have often been taken out of service by professionals due to safety hazards; forcing their use may lead to serious consequences.
❌ Do not use the elevator if you notice water ingress.
If you see water accumulation near the elevator landing door, water seepage inside the car, or smell burning, you should stop using it and contact the property management or maintenance company.
❌ Avoid bringing water into the elevator.
Do not carry dripping umbrellas, wet shoes, etc., into the elevator to prevent rainwater from seeping into the hoistway and causing faults.
❌ Do not act recklessly if trapped.
Stay calm when trapped, never forcibly pry the door! Improper actions may cause more serious danger. Press the emergency call button and call the maintenance hotline, then conserve your energy and wait for rescue personnel.
❌ Use outdoor escalators during typhoons.
Strong winds may cause the handrails to slip or steps to jam. All outdoor escalators should be stopped.
Again, a friendly reminder
During heavy rain and typhoons, safety comes first!
If the elevator shows any abnormality, contact the property management or maintenance company immediately. Do not operate it by yourself. In case of emergency, stay calm and cooperate with rescue personnel.
